These maps are good, they follow the canal course much better than Waterscape’s new ones do. Aiming to use in next part of my youtube canal cruise videos.
Nice work but some errors.
Missing:
Bilston branch, Willenhall branch, Neachells extends further than shown, Monway branch, Danks branch, Dunkirk branch, Dixonx branch, top of Soho branch, Cape arm, Whitmores arm, Heanage st arm, Bumblehole branch, Withymore arm, most of the Pensnett is missing, the old Delph flight. Most of the above are still traceable, some in water in parts, all visible to some extent on Google Earth.
dear lawence hogg,
You mention the danks branch canal in the above ‘missing bits’ my great greatgrandfather Thomas Burgess had a pub called ‘the boat inn’ in at danks wharf, on Old row in 1881 and 1891. I have tried to find if there are any photographs of the area, but it seems none survive, I realise the canal branch is no more, but you state that the traces can still be seen? you seem to know the ins and outs of the area, might you know the sorce of any such existing photographs, I hope to visit the area, any insight into the modern/old area would be appreciated, I have a map showing Old Row and Danks wharf- thank you -carole burgess sept 1st 2011
